What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?
Blepharoplasty is a procedure that improves the appearance and, in some cases, vision. Eyelid surgery may be necessary to address droopy upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids.
Dr. Barnett will discuss the techniques he will use, go over all of your questions, and discuss the risks with you. We can address both the upper and lower lids during one surgical visit. The procedure will be outpatient, and you will be able to go home afterward.
Tiny incisions will be made in the natural creases of your eyelids to leave virtually no visible scarring. Excess skin will be removed, and the fatty deposits will be repositioned if needed.
We will see you in one week for your post-op appointment, usually at 4-6 weeks, 3 or 4 months, and then as needed for the first year after surgery.
Recovery
You should expect bruising and swelling, and plan to sleep elevated for a few weeks. We suggest taking 4-7 days off from work to recover at home. Make sure to apply ice regularly and drink plenty of fluids.
Results will continue to develop for four to six weeks after surgery. Most are fine after six weeks, but some patients may still see healing continue for 4 to 6 months or longer. The eyes may take up to one full year to fully recover.
